Portland trip
Mar. 17th, 2003 10:55 amThe trip down to Portland was fun. Gamestorm was a bit short on judges for the player turnout, so I ended up sitting out a number of slots. Got to play the one game I really wanted, played a second game, and judged two Star Wars Living Force rounds. It was a low-stress event for me, and I really didn't push myself to fill all possible time slots... Of course, having the first slot at 8am ensured I was a zombie the whole weekend--had to judge the first slots both Sat & Sun.
Friday was mostly hanging out with some Seattle gaming buddies over dinner. Saturday was two games, a trip to Powell's Technical Bookstore, a nap, and a late dinner. Sunday was a trip to the Powell's City of Books, a game, and dinner with my fellow Austin escapee to the Pacific Northwest,
royalbananafish. Spent too much money shopping, but had a good time and, heck, there's no sales tax in Oregon.
I tried calling Andrea Saturday afternoon since she had mentioned in her e-mail last week planning to call me, but there was no answer. I tried my best to keep that part of myself that thinks up ridiculous fantasies about the woman I love actually calling me, wanting to see me, and including me in her life. Still, I was a bit melancholy leaving Sunday night having not heard a word from her--not that I had any right to expect such. Other than a few moments of poignancy--including a particularly strong one on the balcony of the hotel Sat night that took a while to shake off--it was a relaxing and enjoyable time.
