Nov. 16th, 2003 08:50 pmSince I didn't make it down to Orycon to hang out with
jeliza and family,
loree always working Sundays, and generally seeing way too much of the gamer crowd, I spent the entire day on my own.
eogan's birthday party Saturday night was enjoyable and pretty low-key, and I got a chance to babble a lot with a couple of people I've seen at numerous Nerdvana and Monkey-Tree House parties but not really interacted with much.
This morning I slept in, then cleaned house and went to brunch at Alki Cafe. While it was raining most of the weekend, the clouds broke while I was driving to West Seattle and it made for an awesome full rainbow over the Sound. It was very windy out today, so there wasn't much activity on Alki Beach. I did think it was pretty surreal to see two guys in rain gear with leaf blowers clearing off the beach-walk--I hate those two-stroke monstrosities.
I read The Stranger over breakfast and the review of Master and Commander intrigued me, so I went to see the 4pm Cinerama showing. Very cool film, but if you aren't into naval warfare and the idea of watching broadside cannon fire doesn't thrill you, skip it. If you are only going because you have the hots for Russell Crowe, you'll probably be disappointed and bored. The crowd at the theatre was definitely not a geek audience since the The Return of the King trailer didn't get much audience response. Probably not surprising since it was mostly middle-aged men dragging their children to the movie.
Had dinner at Chang's Mongolian, did some store browsing, and called it a day. I'm having a hell of a time finding Penelope Swales discs, so I'll probably have to order Homemade Wine from Amazon.com. Speaking of which, I got e-mail that my The Two Towers extended edition DVD is in the mail. Super sweet.
