Oct. 2nd, 2003 08:16 pmI have a job starting next Wednesday, so I'm down to 3 more days of unpaid 'vacation'. This bought of unemployment has been relatively brief (my last one was six months), and I was more prepared for this financially this time around. It meant putting some financial goals on hold, but thankfully no major financial blood-letting was required to weather it.
During the two months of free time, I've spent a lot of time visiting friends, had a trip to the Olympic Peninsula with my brother, went to Austin for a week of Tex-mex and visiting old friends, and gamed a fair amount--ok, a lot but I did have a lot free time and not much money :>
The new job will be working for Sierra in Bellevue on their Hoyle line of products. They have an established team there, and I'm being hired to provide 3D graphics technology experience and generally help out with the production pipeline. This is my first job with a major corporation (Vivendi Universal is the parent company), so it is proving to be quite a learning experience even before I show up for work. The people seem cool and professional, and while I doubt it will have the "family" feel of Beep it will hopefully be an opportunity to further my social connections here and to continue to challenge myself career-wise.
Thanks to
jeliza,
rubylou,
drakemonger,
loree,
onyxlynxx,
maggiemaepisces, and many others for their moral support during this transition.
