Sunday morning,
cuddlyeconomist, Rhys, Margo's Mom, and I went to see the latest Harry Potter film at the Pacific Science Center IMAX. This marks the first time I've seen the movie of one of these books after having already read it. Well, I've not actually read any of the HP books, but I've listened to all the unabridged audio books on long trips in the past year. In any case, when I saw the first 5 movies I didn't realize all the details that were missing. The latest film just seemed to be covering way too much ground, way too fast, and losing all the nuance and detail that actually make the book. It felt like the Cliff Notes version of the story. They are making the last film in two installments, and I think this film could have used the same treatment. Maybe they will be putting more of the flashback content from the sixth book in the next two to help flesh out a lot of missing detail.
Rhys made the request during the film that when he watched the film again on DVD that he would like to fast-forward through the potion-bowl cave scene. Personally I'd have rather fast-forwarded through the teen angst, or at least the swoonier bits of it.
