While nothing is as good as you remember it from your youth, I enjoyed the new Indy film. Set against the Red Scare and drawing a bit much from the X-Files material, and while it lacked Nazis the Commies worked pretty well as a substitute. Cate was hot, and there was absolutely no Jar-Jar stupidity in evidence. Really the only thing I felt was missing was a bit of John Rhys Davies, but otherwise it was satisfying Raider fun. It was certainly better than Temple of Doom.

PS: Nothing after the credits, so don’t wait if you want to try to beat the crowd!

Update: Some guys at work were bitching about the movie today. They said it wasn't believable. Um, ok, that's a reasonable criticism of the entire movie series:
  1. The Ark of the Covenant melts the face off a dude
  2. Bad guy removes another person's heart with his bare hand, which remains beating. Victim remains conscious, able to speak, and chants for like 5 slow minutes as he is lowered into a lava pit
  3. They find the CUP OF CHRIST! Guarded by a 500 year old knight!
Now the film does have one of the most ridiculous narrow escapes in the history of action film, but they have been cranking up the silly in this genre for decades. Die Hard anyone? Really, it's just awesome to it unfold. Believable: no, but what has Indy done that is actually believable?

Is it just "religious artifacts" that get a free pass on reality?
