My brother Todd arrived Wednesday evening, and we've been keeping pretty busy since. Made sure to take him to some of my newer restaurant finds, like Ephesus here in West Seattle, and I "treated" him to the Heart concert Thursday night. The experience for both of us was a bit out of our usual social scene, but not quite as surreal as it was for the Danny Couch luau the parents took us to on our family trip to Hawaii several years back. The audience consisted mostly of fans in their 40s and 50s, with a sprinkling of their 20-something and younger children. There was no opening act, but the doors opened almost two hours before the show, so the audience was very liquored up. One more reason I love my chick-rock concerts: drunk women are generally less annoying. Heart was fun to see and they mostly played older stuff from Little Queen, Dreamboat Annie, and a few from self-titled and Bad Animals, and several Zeppelin covers. They played some lesser known favorites like White Lightning and Wine, but alas no Dream of the Archer or Sylvan Song from the folk turned arena rock band. It seems even the band wants to forget about the Brigade era. I think Todd had a good time overall, but he was clearly among the only 'beautiful people' in attendance.

Due to traffic Friday, we ended up doing shopping rather than making it to the ferry for a trip out to Bainbridge--that's on the agenda for today. We did manage "Queer Eye for the Blind Guy: Season 2" so I could get a new set of glasses--my prescription sunglasses broke a few weeks back--and found some more fashionable REI shirts at their Labor Day sale. After all, what else do you do while your gay brother is in town but get some free fashion consulting?

[livejournal.com profile] hackard is in town for PAX, but so far we've not managed to align the scheduling. Hopefully we'll get a chance to visit before he leaves town. I'm impressed that PAX has gone so big time--it was out in Bellevue last year, and this year it's at the downtown convention center expected to hit 30k attendees. The major downscale and lameness of E3 this year is probably helping boost the event's profile.
