The "Viewing"

walbournThe viewing was creepy, but it got better as more people arrived. Lots of comments about "She was such a... interesting person." The words "interesting" and "colorful" were used many times. Not many people I actually knew, and I think were primarily distant relations and her local friends. In general my mom & dad seem to be doing okay, although my mom and her sister Meredith are very shaken.
Some amusing humor on the drive down with my brother, dad, and mom. Generally my mom is shocked at the ridiculous expense required to bury people. Edna spent her whole life pretending she was never going to die, so she had arranged basically nothing more than picking a potential funeral home. Some hurtful manipulation of the will was also done before her passing, likely because she figured it would never actually come to pass but would make a nice little emotional twist when my mother found out about the details. No real harm done, but a bit spiteful in the details.
We are staying the night at a La Quinta. Not exactly a nice room. We are guessing it means "The mediocre" in Spanish. At least it has Internet.
Tomorrow afternoon is the funeral.
