Made it to Austin last night just fine. A big thanks to
maggiemaepisces for picking me up at the airport, taking me to some fine-fine Trudy's migas & fajitas, and then letting me crash at her place pretty much as soon as we got here. The flight yesterday was not as long as I had originally signed up for thanks to delays in an out of Chicago, so they rerouted me through DFW saving about 2 hours of flying. It was still a damn long day.
Today is going to be another long day. I'm picking up a rental car in a couple of hours, driving to San Antonio to pick up Todd, then we are heading down to Victoria where the folks are already. Tonight is Edna's 'viewing', tomorrow is the funeral in Victoria. The concept of a 'viewing' seems pretty creepy to me, so I suspect it will freak me out somewhat. This could well be the first dead person I've ever seen in my life.
In lighter news, I think I came up with another "phrase that sounds like a euphemism but isn't" last night which amused me greatly, probably mostly because I had been on a plane for 6 hours: "voiding my warranty". It goes well in my mind with "shaking hands with Abraham Lincoln" and "sitting on the two-headed elephant'.
