Jan. 11th, 2007 12:44 amThis evening was proof of the ability of humans to take an inconvenience and turn it into a catastrophe. The word of snow falling this evening caused everyone and their neighbor to panic, get on the road as early as possible, and generally make a complete mess out of the entire highway system. I had planned to go see a sneak of Pan's Labyrinth with
daemonwolf, but it took nearly two hours to just crawl from the Millennium buildings into Redmond. Getting to the U-District by 7pm was never going to happen. So, no sneak. I'll have to try to catch it later.
The good news is that
daemonwolf is also in the Millennium buildings, so she was stuck too. Instead we went to dinner at Typhoon and caught Children of Men at the Bella Botega theater while waiting for our fellow Microsofties to get the hell off the roads. It made for a fun evening.
Of course at 10pm the roads were still a mess heading out to Duval. The roads were not in bad enough shape to justify the strewn abandoned cars, the multihour delays, or the general sense of panic. The storm was actually pretty damn mild, but the resulting traffic was ungodly bad. Then again, Seattle drivers can't seem to handle rain and we get 200+ days of it.
