It's been a very busy few weeks, but things are finally winding down for the holidays. Monday & Tuesday was the Windows Graphics Summit, which we had at the Willows Lodge rather than the usual Salish Lodge. Not as scenic, but still very posh. I had to submit my SigGraph 2007 course proposal by Thursday at 5pm, which I'm glad to have out of the way. I've got a few more things to wrap at work, and then a half-week training event. The office is going to start emptying out with everyone taking their vacation time before the end of the year, but I've got nothing unusual planned until Dec 22nd.
Friday night I went out with
bee_lucid and her friend. We ended up at the War Room, which from the patrons is predominately a lesbian bar. A late, but enjoyable evening.
Saturday I ran the last Living Force module for the local gaming group. I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did back in March. As the module author said in the ending scene which was intended to evoke the "Ewok celebration" at the end of Return of the Jedi: nyub, my friends. nyub. nyub.
Afterwards, I went to the Microsoft Entertainment division's Christmas Party and left after about 30 minutes. Between the fact that was branded to a ridiculous amount by Zune and Xbox 360; the prom-like mix of dancing, dressing up, taking portraits, and music heavy on the hip-hop; and the fact that out of thousands of people I think I knew maybe two, I didn't really find it to be all that. Certainly compared to the lame departmental party last year it was more interesting, but I think it harkened back to the days of excess when Microsoft threw a monster annual party with lots of booze, misbehaving, and questionable attraction to many employees. Spent the rest of the evening with
jeliza as we hung out eating sugar cookies and playing stupid Xbox 360 arcade games. Good times.
Today I had brunch with
datavore &
loree, then came home and raked up the leaves I've been ignoring for over a month after a quick stop at Home Depot to purchase the required tool. I had hoped to get a landscaper to come mow and rake them up, but no luck since we are well past the growing season. It is amazing how heavy a yard-waste dumpster full of wet leaves weighs. Well, not that amazing I guess since it's basically baby dirt. Also installed new weather-stripping on the front door, so I suppose I get to keep my status as a homeowner. Otherwise, I've been catching up on my backlog of Eureka, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report episodes.
