More of the same on Thursday. The IGDA sponsored game developer's rant session was interesting, and less full of "&%#$ the publishers! &%#$ the retailers!". Apparently now we all know the industry funding model is broken, so let's move on to other rants. Some nice commentaries on game design, attracting more women into the industry, the state of game journalism, being more aware of the business and practical issues of funding, etc.

Thursday night was spent celebrating a co-worker's birthday, and then attending the Microsoft party. As usual, invitations were hard enough to come by that the attendees were simply happy with being inside the velvet rope and those without invites were bitter that they weren't part of the 'in' crowd. In fact, there was even a "***k the Microsoft Party Party!" going on at the same time.

Frankly, I enjoyed the Autodesk party this year more. The venue really couldn't do anything more than house and booze-up people, the band was interesting but undanceable, and there really wasn't much for someone who wasn't drinking to do after the first hour or two of chatting up the hostesses. So I went to bed around midnight, although I heard the birthday girl was eating Denny's at 3am. Many of my fellow Microsofties working the show looked a little rough around the edges this morning.
