Falling and smashing one's face into the sidewalk sucks. I wouldn't recommend doing it.
On my way back to the office from a meeting over at the Millennium buildings, I slipped stepping up onto the sidewalk, fell and didn't manage to catch myself before slamming the right half of my face onto the sidewalk Mal (of Firefly) style. I was rewarded for my stunt with a deep 2 cm laceration above my right eye that bled like a mf. A trip back to my car for a few sterile bandages, and a ride from a co-worker put me at the Group Health ER across the street from main campus. About 2 hours later I have 4 stitches, a big ugly dressing over my right eye, and am totally up-to-date on my tetanus shots. Well, I had been meaning to get that updated soon anyhow, I was just hoping it wouldn't be via the ER this time.
The good news is I managed to avoid giving myself a concussion in the process...
