So reading some of the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, it's clear the critics hate this film. Personally, I really enjoyed it. It seemed to have the feel of the original cartoon: quirky, mildly disturbing at times, a strong focus on organic technology and sexuality. Some of the critics complain it's incoherent. If anything it's too coherent: they reveal too much and neatly explain too much. The thing that made the shorts so fun was that it was never clear what was going on.

Is it "great cinema"? No, but it is fun sci-fi action with lots of strong, kicking-ass women and unique quirky imagery. The real complaint should be that they watered it down trying to appeal to the 'average' American audience by not challenging them mentally and instead wrapping up everything fairly neatly, thus compromising the unique surreal nature of the material. The plot itself turns out to be fairly simplistic, where not explaining things and leaving it more conspiratorial--something the original series did smartly--the audience is likely to be more interested than anything actually spoon-fed to them.

It is a film worth seeing. It beats the hell out of crap like Final Destination 3 where insipid sequels get green lighted over anything new or interesting.
