Looking back over my journal, I haven't really posted much substantial in a while, so here goes:

Work is going pretty well, although it looks like things will be really damn busy next year with the launch of the next version of Windows. It's been an interesting ride so far, and I'm sure next year will be stressful but productive. There's the old saying "You don't want to see Texas law or sausage being made". I think we can add "Microsoft software" to the list of things that you don't really want to know how it is made. I can say that the planned features are pretty damn cool, but as with all software it is a matter of how it all gels.

The sour memory of Windows ME still haunts the division.

[livejournal.com profile] jeliza and I had a great date Saturday evening, but otherwise she and the rest of her family have had their hands full with the kids. I hope for all their sakes they find their rhythm again soon.

The gaming schedule has picked up of late as people realize the end of the year is approaching, and they want to use up their annual allotment of time units before New Year's. Lots of scheduling e-mails flying about, games planned, and geeking to be done. I'm looking forward to GenCon SoCal, which is likely my last "big RPGA con" trip for the foreseeable future.

I've also managed to make some progress on the "getting a life" front. The Microsoft Singles group has been inactive for most of the year I've worked there, but started up again recently. It's going to be a long-term investment of time, but if nothing else it will hopefully expand my social circle a bit. For the most part the events have all been 'hanging out in a bar', which at least has proved good for conversation with people that I would likely never meet in any other context. It's not exactly comfortable, but that is probably a good sign all-in-all. I've at least seen some of the more interesting and trendy bars & hang-out spots around Seattle.

The summer is over and fall is coming, which means we've had more over-cast days and the sunny days are on the decline. It also means we have shorter days, and my mild seasonal-affective syndrome combined with a fair amount of evening time spent on my own has made me a bit moody. Ok, probably "moodier" would be a more accurate given my general tendency to 'brood'. At least I'm enjoying day-to-day life, so that is a big improvement over recent years.

It does mean contending with the usual self-abuse my subconscious likes to dig up when I'm feeling excessively introspective. Friday night was an intensely painful dream featuring Kim as the usual symbol of rejection, loss, and one-sided relationships. Last night was a long dream about trying to enjoy an intimate evening with a girl in a really large suite in a hotel, but constantly being interrupted by cleaning staff and front-desk mix-ups resulting in other guests entering the room unannounced. Whacky.

Took Koshka to the vet this past week. Her heart murmur is a bit more pronounced than last year, but everything checks out great and her blood work is excellent for a cat reaching her 'senior' years--"a cat of a certain age" as it were. She's still reasonably active, and was quite friendly with the gamers when they came over as that means her favorite chairs get brought out--yes [livejournal.com profile] appleang she still adores those folding grey chairs with that rough ugly-ass upholstery on them :>

I had lunch this week with the founder of Beep to do a bit of catching up. He gave me the Voodoo Vince cutscene DVD he compiled, which includes a lot of Hertzfeldt-esque short animations that the artists sent around over the lifetime of the project. It definitely reminded me how amusing that group of people were to work with.

Friday is a Melissa Ferrick concert at the The Triple Door, which should be great as usual. Otherwise, not a lot on the social calendar this week as of yet...
