The show has definitely gotten bigger. Back in '98, the LA Convention Center seemed too damn big for the show with a long, empty concourse to traverse between the two halls. This year, the crowds are huge and are keeping the whole place packed. I think most of the growth of attendees are gamer enthusiasts, but still impressive.
Naturally the place is crawling with booth babes pushing hand-outs and posing for photos, but there are also fully-clothed women old enough to have real jobs in attendance both as enthusiasts and business people. There were some guys wearing blonde wigs and women's underwear outside their jeans handing out stickers for www.antiboothbabes.com. Cute.
I have to say that as a long-time industry attendee to this event, this year Microsoft's presence has finally reached the quality level of Sony--I've always felt that Microsoft's previous year booths had an amateur feel to them. The XBox booth is actually quite large, architecturally attractive, showing a lot of titles, and generating a lot of traffic. The Games for Windows booth, while not nearly as large, also looks professional and is getting good traffic despite being hidden behind "Wall of THQ".
