The only television that is English-speaking here in Moscow is BBC News and the UK edition of CNN. There was that annoying "Terri Schaivo" stupidity for a day or two in the news even here, but it's been "Pope-o-vision" pretty much ever since. At least the overseas CNN doesn't have 25% of the screen filled with pointless graphics and scrolls.

I found it really sad that the impression one gets about the "Terri" thing is that the entire country is full of life at any cost pro-lifers rather than a country with a legimate mix of opinions. The thing that really torqued me off was the Republican smuck saying this whole situation just points out the problem with an "activist judiciary" since they "defied the will of the Congress, President, and conservative protesters". Um, actually that is their fucking job! If you don't like the law, why don't you use the legislative process to actually pass laws that will hold-up to tests of constitutionality? Don't blame the judges for using the rule of law to determine the outcome of a situation to the best of their ability that you happen to disagree with. If you spent less time wasting the country's Congressional sessions equating randomly assigned case judges to murderers and actually trying to find a workable compromise on the "pro-life vs. pro-choice" issue--which has been encouraged and milked for political gain for 20+ years by all sides--then perhaps the case wouldn't have taken so long and caused so much suffering.

As for Terri herself, I'm glad she is finally beyond the reach of those seeking to use her lingering shell as a political toy. How would Catholics respond to having the Pope kept alive as a bag of protoplasm for 10 years just because we can?
