"Holy *hit I'm in Moscow!"
Apr. 1st, 2005 12:26 amThe flight into Moscow was longish, but not bad. KLM merged with Air France, so the food was decent. Immigration was quite a wait--took about 30 minutes--but they didn't give me any hassle. My arranged ride to the hotel fell through, so I had to go the route of hiring a taxi. They screw foreigners here on principle, so that was more exciting than I'd have liked paying $100 US and getting put into an unmarked car with some other random guy than the one I just paid. Worked out fine in the end. First thing I did was get a shower. Thankfully there are some native Russian speakers here hosting me, so I my experience for dinner wasn't quite as daunting as it could otherwise have been.
Chuck learns Cyrillic lesson 1: If you see a sign that reads something like "PECTOPAH" that means "RESTAURANT".
In any case, I'm up after not really sleeping well for probably 20 hours so I'm going to go try to get some sleep and be ready for my "game developers in Russia" conference experience to start bright and early (local time).
Update: Did you know that LiveJournal has a Russian localized version? I didn't until I logged in from here and I can't make heads or tails of the interface...
