"In Amsterdam. Still not king."

walbournThe flight from Seattle was pretty smooth and I'm now sitting in the "exclusive, you have to be really special and fly business class or join the club" lounge... along with about a 100 other people in one of three lounges just for KLM/Northwest Air.
The Amsterdam airport is a mall. A clean, happy, shiny, Netherlands style mall. In fact, flying in you can see the neatly arranged farms, green spaces, roads, and buildings. Like most of these Scandinavian countries, it's cleanliness is somehow charming and smug at the same time. Damn Dutch and their clean, socially responsible, environmentally sensitive ways!
I'm looking forward to the return trip when I get a chance to check out the city a bit.
I feel like the underpants gnomes stole 12 hours of my life. While my clock set to Pacific time (GMT-8) says it is just after 10pm, the sun is shining happily on a too-early morning just after 8am (GMT+1). When I get to Moscow, I'll be at GMT+3. I can probably sneak in a nap, but I need to try to stay up until a reasonable local bedtime. Going to be a long-ass day.
Sleeping on a plane, even in business class, sucks. It's like trying to sleep in a dentist's chair. I don't sleep on my back and prefer to sleep on my side with plenty of rolling about. Instead, I flopped about like a salmon and kept waking up to find bits of my limbs and face tingling. I guess it should make whatever awaits me in Moscow seem like a AAA hotel as long as it is flat, soft, and includes pillows instead of bricks.
