Pack and Ready for Winter Fantasy
Jan. 24th, 2005 11:53 pmI'm off to the Winter Fantasy convention tomorrow in Arlington, VA. Of course, it is ass cold there (highs in the low 40s, lows in the teen), but at least there doesn't appear to be snow in the forecast for my travel days and there are no delays at the moment.
When the WF con was back in Fort Wayne, IN, it was always snowing, but it has been a few years since I've been. I didn't make last year, which was the first year they held it on the East coast. In fact, the last time I was at WF was two years ago, which was the last time I saw Karen.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to the convention and a week of solid gaming silliness. This will be the last year of the Living Force campaign and the RPGA has systematically eroded the value of attending a con like Winter Fantasy to the point that I will probably not bother going to another one, so in many ways it is a 'last hurrah'--or at least the last year I'm likely to fly across the country to game--for a hobby that has given me endless hours of enjoyment and distraction from many personally difficult years.
But change is good--if unwelcome at times--, and I'm going to enjoy the last year of playing several of these games as they come to their natural close.
