We came back to San Antonio this afternoon, had an early dinner at Blanco Cafe, then went over to BAMC (pronounced but not spelled "Bamsey"--damn military acronyms!). My mom’s sister, Meredith, had flown in earlier in the day. Margo and I arrived just as they were wrapping up a conversation with the surgeon. Looks like it will only be a double bypass, and the veins will be harvested from her left arm rather than her leg so it should speed recovery (apparently this is a relatively new technique).
Mom’s (and everyone else’s) anxiety level was crank up to 11 with all the ‘please sign here to acknowledge all the horrible things that could go wrong’ paperwork, but we sent my brother, dad, and Meredith off for the night (there’s a limit of 2 visitors at a time). After a little while they gave Mom some Xanax, and we visited for a few hours. She then took a shower and went to sleep for a while. They apparently gave her some sleeping pills last night and she managed some good sleep, so hopefully they will do the same tonight.
Todd, Meredith, and dad will be getting up at the crack of dawn to be with mom when they wheel her in to pre-op. Margo and I will come join them in the waiting room later in the afternoon. Margo heads home tomorrow evening, and we should know the prognosis and be able to visit before then.
