Jan. 3rd, 2007 11:37 amMy house is at 63 degrees and rising. In fact, it almost feels too warm in my bedroom after having the space heater running in there all night. Yeah!
Since I didn't insist they come out on the holiday weekend, it looks like the repairs are covered under the service contract. The guy that came out this morning was the same one that came out Friday, so he was apologetic for missing the real problem. He ended up doing a lot of work trying to narrow down the problem, so it's in pretty good shape now. I'm just glad it didn't turn out to be any kind of issue with the buried tank or fuel line!
I also found out that my conservative use of oil is doing pretty well. Keeping the house at 68 a few hours in the morning and evening, and leaving it at 55 overnight has used about a third of the tank in 4 months. Given that it's $1000 a tank, I'd rather use it sparingly. Still, central heat has made a huge improvement in my quality of life in the chilly winter here. Those useless electric wall board heaters in my old apartment sucked.
In other news, the insurance adjuster came by to check out the damage from the storm, and it looks like I'll have a check in a few weeks to buy a new roof. I'll have to see if it's worth getting any upgrades while I'm at it, but if nothing else they can also do the extra venting work I was already planning at the same time.
