Ani Difranco's Educated Guess
Jan. 29th, 2004 10:59 am"come and come for that sweet sweetness
I'll be your never ending vending machine
I could never need to be alone
never need to be my own
as much as you need your queen
I know men are delicate
origami creatures
who need women to unfold them
hold them when they cry
but I am tired of being your savior
and I am tired of telling you why"
-- Ani Difranco, Origami
I've been listening to Ani's new album for about 3-4 days. While none of the songs are 'fast favorites', I like quite a few of the tracks. The musical sound is very raw--for those not familiar with Ani, she has ranged from acoustic guitar to full brass-band over the years--, bordering on discordant in a few places. Her lyrics are great as always. Yes, she is highly political and preachy, but her work is also poetic and sometimes contain profoundly moving turns of phrase.
I don't think I recommend Educated Guess as anyone's first Ani album (Living In Clip is probably the best for that), but I'm glad I have it...
