The day got an early start at 5:30a to catch my 7:50a flight to Oakland. We drove up to San Rafael to visit Lucas Arts, then came back through San Francisco via the Golden Gate Bridge and Golden Gate Park to catch a flight to San Diego. Lucas Arts was cool, although I suspect there is going to be far more Star Wars geekry at Star Wars Celebration III since most of this trip was spent chatting with management and technical directors. Got a copy of Knights of the Republic 2: The Sith Wars for Xbox out of the deal. Nearly three hours of meetings and presentation was pretty harsh on my voice, but its the job and good practice. While I've done a number of presentations since starting at Microsoft back in July, this is only my second trip going 'solo' as the developer.
Northern California really is pretty crappy looking. Out of the city the countryside is reasonably pretty, but everything else is so crowded, polluted, and looks so--as my traveling partner put it--"industrial pig fuck". One expects LA to look like ass, but it is disturbing to see it with less density. Most of the area we drove through looked like Beirut with shrubs. No wonder some Californians are keen to move elsewhere.
