After a very long day of travel, I've made it safely to Todd's apartment in Manhattan, where I'll be staying through the end of the week. A big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jeliza for the ride to the airport this morning, as well as just being an all-round super-keen girl.

The flight itself was very uneventful, which is how I like them... Getting on the plane was a total bitch though. There are T-storms on the east coast all week, so the flights into Newark were screwed up nation-wide today--I'm told this happens every few days during the Summer since Newark is routinely run at near maximum capacity. So, my flight went from the original scheduled time of 12:35pm, to 12:50pm, then jumped to 3:10pm departure with the 'please sit around with your thumb up your ass in the gate area in case we can go earlier' caveat. We eventually started boarding at 2pm, and the pilot must have burned some extra fuel 'cause we made it in at 10pm--well, 10:15pm after going to a different gate and then waiting around for it to be ready--which was less than two hours later than originally scheduled.

The in-flight movie was 50 First Dates, which despite the cast was actually a decent romantic flick. The premise is super-challenged because people with the in-ability to form long-term memories don't tend to remember an entire day in their short-term memory. Whatever. At least it wasn't Big Mama's House or something similar.

Getting from the airport to Todd's place was a little bit of an adventure in and of itself since he doesn't have a car to come pick me up. So, I took an express bus service to Penn Station, then a Taxi the ten blocks to his apartment. I paid too much for the taxi in tip by asking for more simple change than I should have, but I should just get used to be ripped off this week :>

I don't have much of an impression of NYC as of yet since the weather was overcast and we landed in New Jersey, the bus windows were set up with sun shades despite being night time, and the taxi ride was really short. About all I've seen so far is the top if the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden--or more accurately the outside of said building with tons of people leaving some event--, and the inside of the apartment.

Since Todd works tomorrow and Friday, I'll be exploring the city a bit on my own first. I'm planning to check out the Natural Science Museum and the Rose Space Center, and perhaps a little of Central Park tomorrow... I'm going to see if I can swing tickets to a taping of the Daily Show, but I don't have any idea how much lead time they need...

Update: Tickets for the Daily Show are booked through the rest of the year. I could call for any last minute cancellations, but they wanted me to call last Friday. No biggie.
