SIFF: "Tamala 2010"
May. 25th, 2004 11:51 pmI have this saying about Japanese film: "I'm sure it makes more sense in the original Japanese". Animae has a particular style and social context, and you have to give the translators some slack when they make crazy engrish subtitles for it.
This movie probably makes little sense in any language, but it was really funny and trippy to watch. The review for the Seattle Intl Film Festival said: "Imagine Hello Kitty on acid and you're almost there." This doesn't really do it justice. I'd say "Imagine Hello Kitty on acid as envisioned by the Japanese love-child of Quentin Tarantino and Terry Gillingham."
Other than that, I have no contexual reference to describe the film. It is probably the strangest thing I've ever seen. If you are in Seattle, you can catch it on June 9th at 6:45pm.
