May. 23rd, 2004 10:59 amLast time I installed Windows 2000 Server was about a year or so ago, and it wasn't that big a deal. Now there are so many worms and Windows OS attacking viruses out there that I can't get online long enough to get the critical updates before I'm infected...
So now I'm installing Windows 2000 Server onto my home network for the *third* time. The first time I screwed up one of the settings and had to start over--which is par for the course for me as I've never been able to get Windows NT successfully installed on this system the first time. The second time I had installed SP4 and the "Sassar" hotfix before getting online to get critical updates, and by the time I managed to get most of them my system was infected with at least 3 viruses. McAfee was able to find them, but couldn't remove them fast enough and it kept hosing up the boot system. SO, I'm going to try for a third install with as many of the hotfixes in place before I ever get on the Internet with it.
Very educational, if incredibly boring and time-consuming...
