"I said once a week... Would you believe once every ten days?"
-- Maxwell Smart

Well, [livejournal.com profile] jeliza and I didn't manage that date night this weekend, but it has been rescheduled for tonight. No use crying over spilled... um... whatever.

So other than a great Friday night out with [livejournal.com profile] loree for dinner and a movie, I spent the majority of the weekend on my own. After cleaning the house Saturday, I went out and did some 'retail therapy' to pass the time including a trip to REI for some new shoes, a trip to the WotC store at Crossroads before they close, a run through CD Warehouse resulting in my fine Star Wars soundtrack purchase, and lastly a visit to Gamestop where I picked up Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for the XBox.

Yes, I know everyone else played this one two years ago on the PS2, but I didn't play it at the time and actually the fact that the games only similarity to actual D&D 3rd edition is the use of many of the words found in the D&D core books put me off it at first--so I'm a purist... sue me. Unlike the original Baldur's Gate titles, this one was done by a developer in California--I think I actually submitted my resume to them for this project back when I was looking for work after Kinesoft--and while it lacks the richness of a real 'RPG' title, it's fun. As a reviewer aptly put it, it's Gauntlet meets Diablo. The game is supposed to end in a cliff-hanger, and actually so does the already published sequel. The problem is that the Black Isle studio has been having financial troubles for years and they might never get the third part done. Oh well...

Sunday I had a meeting for the local RPGA club and then breakfast with a friend, and then proceeded to kill the majority of my Sunday with the Xbox...

Not quite what I had originally planned for the weekend, but pleasant enough. Besides, with my upcoming schedule being booked solid with events for the next two weeks, it is nice to get some vegging time in once in a while.
