Heard the new song fallen on the radio today. I'm a serious fan, but I agree with [livejournal.com profile] jeliza that it was solid but not as compelling as some of her other songs. Then again, it seems that the single considered most 'sellable' for radio play is usually the weakest song of any album IMO. Guess I'll find on Nov 4 when the album afterglow comes out.

My first exposure to Sarah was through my ex, [livejournal.com profile] appleang. One of her co-workers at Bookstop (an Austin bookstore chain later absorbed by B&N) was playing it and she bought a few CDs (solace and touch) as a result. Like many artists, it took a while but it grew on me. I wasn't really a fan until I went to see a live show (with Paula Cole opening doing stuff from her first album Harbinger) on the Fumbling tour. Between a few concerts and Lilith Fair, I've seen her live many times...

So many of Sarah's songs are themes for moments of my life, feelings I couldn't express as well, or simply associated strongly with powerful memories. I'm not sure if Sarah will be too damn happy to make the same style of music now, or if the lack of drama in my own life now will somehow lessen my connection to her new music. I'll probably enjoy the new album, but still prefer 'classic Sarah' much the same way I feel about Melissa Etheridge...

Favorite Sarah songs to date: do what you have to do, ice, fear, fumbling towards ecstasy, circle, I will remember you, the path of thorns, steaming, vox

If nothing else, the Sarah fan lists will have something to discuss besides 'artists that remind one of Sarah'...
