Just got back from the Beep Voodoo Vince ship party/layoff bowling party. We got word that the game has officially reached RTM (Release To Manufacture) today--a solid five days ahead of schedule I might add. The reviews so far are all very positive, so at least we can hope for a critical success even it is totally irrelevant for Beep's future. Should be available for purchase around Sept 23rd.

Anyhow, good food and a fun six games of bowling. My first game sucked, but my second was a 180--one of my better games ever. Visited with my old co-workers and found out that most of them are having about the same luck with the job search as I am. Seems all the employers are being ridiculously picky or perhaps just not serious enough about hiring at this moment to commit. A few people have jobs, but not many. In fact, a number of people seem quite happy to be unemployed at the moment and free to pursue various interests for a while. I'd be able to enjoy it more with a solid start date at some point so I can relax a bit, but still it is rare to have much free time as an adult so I'm enjoying it as best I can.

Actually, it is a good thing that Beep is shutting down... the place was breeder central. Another year and I might have ended up pregnant. There must be some kind of correlation between the amount of beer & wine consumed at work and the fertility of the employees. There were about 7 project babies, and 5 of them were present for the party.

We got nifty unofficial Voodoo Vince shirts, burned CDs of all the company photos from the past two years, and they handed out some 'special rewards'. I got Most Paper Wasted on Useless Gaming Statistics--I printed a lot of RPGA modules and character stuff at work :> Other prizes given included Most Irritable Bowel (Brant for his recent month-long medical issue), Most Alcohol Consumed By A Minor (Joe looks like he's 18 even though he is 25), Most Home Improvement Projects, Most Likely to Move to Japan (for Dan our local asiaphile), and a few others.

While the Beep sarcastic humor was definitely present, it was all very relaxed and good-natured. Everyone seemed genuinely to enjoy being around each other and not overly bitter about the whole thing--at least at this point. Tonight was the last night that we'll all be together (in fact, Bill wasn't present so one person was missing), and closes a chapter on a great team and a great project.
