2007 - 2009

It's New Year's Day, and in keeping with tradition I spent a little time pulling out the records older than seven years to shred, and replaced them with 2016's paperwork.

With my lack of personal blogging the past few years, I skipped the 2007 and 2008 New Year's posts--I actually had blog posts to cover those years in any case. Still probably worth posting a quick summary:

2007

My crazy "Grandma Bubbles" passed away and I attended the funeral with brother and parents. It was the first year I taught at DigiPen as a part-time lab proctor. I went to London to speak at GameFest UK and Japan for GameFest Japan, Seoul twice that year, and I taught a course at SIGGRAPH. It was also the year I first met [livejournal.com profile] cuddlyeconomist on a trip back to Texas.

2008

After seven years of pretty heavy participation and lots of convention travel, I stopped playing RPGA games in early 2008--all my favorite campaigns had wound down and D&D 4th edition was not enticing at all. I got into playing the Lord of the Rings Online MMO which I started playing on one of those Korea trips in 2007--since most of the people I knew in the game were Aussies, I ended up laying at some seriously late hours. [livejournal.com profile] cuddlyeconomist was in Seattle for most of that summer. It was also the 20th year reunion for my high school class, and Penelope Swales slept on my couch for a weekend. Travelled a fair bit for work including my last trip to Seoul. Oh, and I came down with a case of the shingles that came close to damaging my vision.

2009

[livejournal.com profile] cuddlyeconomist moved to Seattle in April, started her Masters in Public Health Genetics at the University of Washington, and we went to Hawaii for one of her conferences in October. My mother had a heart attack and had bypass surgery in May. In July I hit my five-year anniversary at Microsoft. I was also diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
