Things have been pretty busy so far, and I suspect as the summer approaches things will continue to be busy around here...
Rhys was up the first weekend in April, and we all went to Norwescon con. It was a fun event, and we spent a good amount of time visiting with friends, although I missed having
jeliza,
drakemonger, and
rubylou about. We did the usual browsing, a few panels, attended a few dances, strolled the party wing, and enjoyed wearing the
cuddlyeconomist's mom's contribution of a pair of steampunk outfits.
We've been on a bit of a steampunk kick lately. This past weekend we went to a concert put on by Abney Park among other things. I ran into
hollyking, a friend from the Tacoma gaming group I used to play with a lot, and my former manager at Microsoft. Small world.
Steampunk seems to be the new goth. Maybe they just ran out of things to wear in black? It seems like the rennies and goths morphed through pirates into steampunkers. I love the asthetic, but it seems like a lot of people are wearing their existing costumes, throwing in some brown, a pair of goggles, and maybe a pith hat. In any case, it seems we've got another hobby to keep us amused.
Koshka is doing ok. The best way to describe her is "stable". She's moving really slow, and is extremely frail, but she's at least eating, drinking, and appears to have a functioning GI tract. She like most of the elderly in America spends most of her time napping between administrations of drugs. She's on four maintenance meds now including two different pills and two different oral medicines split up twice a day. She's getting frustrated how often she's having her dignity affronted with all the man-handling, but at least she seems to be hanging in there. She could use Medicare Part D as they aren't all that cheap.
We did some work on the yard last weekend to clean up with a bit of spring planting. We have the rest of our fencing project scheduled for the last week in May, including some landscape work to get prepped and a professional to do the posting--it's an incline, so we'd rather not have to do that part ourselves. There will be fencing galore over the long Memorial Day weekend, but I'm really looking forward to getting it all done.
