Two years in Seattle...
Aug. 15th, 2003 11:33 amTomorrow will be my two year anniversary of moving to Seattle. It doesn't seem that long ago. While many of my plans on moving to Seattle didn't work out (particularly with respect to Andrea), the experience has certainly helped put emotional distance from some things that weighed me down living in Austin. The first year here was hard and lonely, but between an enjoyable work place, a growing pool of local friends, and just being more comfortable in a once-new place, life in Seattle is pretty good.
I still miss a lot of people that I only get to see once or twice a year now. I miss Tex-mex, but I spend a lot less money eating out up here. The lack of central heating requires wearing a lot more clothing in the winter to keep from being cold and grumpy, but the summers are damn nice. The skyline is beautiful, real trees surround me, and the ocean is nearby.
All in all, I'm happier here than I was in Austin and that is the best outcome I could have hope to achieve with the move. Being unemployed is a bummer, but hopefully I'll find productive work before too long... And while I'm still a long way from being emotionally fulfilled, I can at least see it as a possibility in my life here.
Anyhow, I'm off to Dragonflight for the weekend--which was in fact the first event I attended in Seattle.
