If I wanted to see young attractive people doing cool and exciting things, I'd watch sports.
Great fun, excellent special effects, and perhaps a bit too many awesome action scenes. I originally feared it would be something akin to First Knight which merely borrowed character names from a myth and that was it. It is definitely well into 'alternative timeline' land, which is probably the only way they can write themselves out of the box they were put in by 33 years of history (jebus, it's been 43 years!?!?)
Definitely worth a watch in IMAX. It plays holy-hell with all previously established canon, but at least it wasn't "Brent, you should emote more in this scene."
The setup with Kirk's birth was cool, but shot a bit too ER-style for my tastes.
Um, when did Sulu become a badass ninja! That was totally sweet.
The Enterprise looks awesome, yet managed to keep the overly bright look of the Motion Picture version of NC-1701.
JJ took cues from the Starship Troopers movie with ships exploding and the crews burning up while being spaced. It did help break the feeling that the interiors are just sets.
I really like the new McCoy.
Leonard is awesome as always.
The action scenes were a bit too fast and furious, so we basically had a few lines from half the regular characters, but if they make any more I'll be there to watch it.
The bad guy is a little too much like old Darth Maul: cool character, limited screen time, kind of a lame climax for his character arc.
