Started the day yesterday with my folks taking me to Goofy's Kitchen for breakfast, which is one of the 'character dining' restaurants. I was indulgent with their desire to take pictures of me with Goofy, Max, the Fairy Godmother, and Dale (of Chip and...), but I was definitely done with the whole Disney character thing by the end of the meal. Spent the bulk of the rest of the day yesterday exploring Disneyland with my Dad, and today we spent about a half-day checking out Disneyland's California Adventure park across the street.

Generally speaking I'm not a fan of rides with free-fall and/or visual heights. As such, it turns out that a park designed to thrilled people 25+ years ago and something that will entertain 8 year olds is about my speed. The only coaster ride I won't go near is the California Screaming coaster, and I wasn't a big fan of the Mini coaster. The Matterhorn Bobsleds were just about perfect with lots of speed but no major drops or being subjected to the feeling of dangling out on a rail fifty feet in the air. My folks are huge fans of the Indiana Jones ride, and with the crowds being relatively light we managed to ride it quite a few times. The Grizzly River ride was fun, and the Splash Mountain log plume ride was good except for the really long drop in the middle. Generally managed to explore both parks in full in a day and a half.

The best way to summarize a trip to Disneyland is that it largely consists of queuing, walking, and listening to the sound of parents disciplining their children. California Adventure itself struck me like the state of California: expensive, crowded, and with only a few exceptions not terribly interesting.

Disneyland is a bit more interesting, but we still managed everything there in 1 day with a few repeats. At peak season, I'd doubt we'd have been able to ride as much as we did even with the Fast pass system--the longest wait we saw was 70 minutes for Splash Mountain and we Fast passed past 60 minutes of it.
