I started the day waking up from a restless night at my folk's place outside San Antonio. The 2 hour time shift, flight delays getting me in closer to midnight than 10pm local time, weird noises coming from the house's heater in the middle of the night, and the general strangeness of sleeping in a guest bed made for a fitful night's sleep.
The drive up to Austin was pleasant enough I suppose. The construction between San Antonio and New Braunfield's that has been going on something like 10+ years is still there, but the area of slow moving traffic was pretty limited. I don't know if it is living in the PacNW or the holidays, but it seems like the local traffic has gotten worse. Far too many aggressive, selfish assohles in this town. Bleh. Probably just too damn many people for the roads and a total lack of public transportation alternatives. Yeah, insert liberal bias here.
Grabbed a snack at La Madeline, did some erranding for my folks in the afternoon, and went over to hang out with
onyxlynxx for a bit before dinner at Chuy's, where we were joined by
maggiemaepisces,
panthyr, and Sasha. Much good conversation, consuming of baskets of chips and salsa, and my favorite dish of steak fajitas rounded out the evening.
As often happens when coming back to visit, most people are still working out their week and our schedule's just don't overlap. This year is harder than most with my parent's planning a number of visits to relatives in the area while my brother and I are in town, combined with the fact that the holiday itself falls on a weekend. The resulting crunch makes it hard to make time to see everyone I'd like to see. Maybe more of you should consider a visit to Seattle, eh?
