Kamping

I've always enjoyed camping, and back in the Boy Scouts we did everything from "build a little frontier homestead" camping to low-impact camping (the rage at Philmont which has to endure 22,000 visitors a year). In the past decade or so, I've mostly engaged in 'car-camping' where you drive up to a campground, throw out a tent, and call it good. Alas tent camping is a bit of a pain with a toddler. Plus we seem to have time to camp a bit offseason when it's a bit cold at night. We have some nice mummy bags, but it's a long extremely cold trip to the loo in the middle of the night.

This year we've taken up "Cabins at the KOA" camping. It's a pretty decent compromise with the Babyman being more contained (both acoustically as well as physically), easier to keep the space warm, and still has plenty of camp cooking and smores. There is still a trip to use the facilities, but you have a warm space to put on and off pants. Plus KOA's have a ton of kids stuff which keeps Rhys entertained.

We were considering a camper-trailer, but we figure given the amount of camping we do right now it would probably take 20+ years of cabin fees to amount to the cost of a trailer...
