Winging Home
Dec. 27th, 2008 03:27 pmAfter a few days in San Antonio with the parents and brother, I'm headed back home to Seattle today. Weather in Texas is clear and warm (70s) and hopefully I can bring a little bit of it back to the Pacific Northwest. The banks of snow will hopefully be melting away by the time I get there, but the trip so far is already a bit crazy. My flight from SAT to DFW was delayed 30+ minutes, and rather than wait for it with a potentially tight connection I swapped to an earlier flight that itself was leaving almost 2 hours later than scheduled. I made it to DFW earlier than planned to find my flight to SEA is delayed 35 minutes. Well, more accurately it was delayed 15 minutes and then updated to say delayed 35 minutes. I checked a flight to Seattle leaving a bit earlier to see if I could jump planes again, but they had a 40+ stand-by list already. Looks like my originally planned flight has a 20+ person standby list, so there's clearly a lot of people trying to get to Seattle today. I'm just happy to have a seat assignment at this point.
cuddlyeconomist is meeting me in Seattle, and her flight is on time, so hopefully I'll be leaving here shortly. The good news is it looks like my plane just arrived and is deboarding.
Once we get to Seattle, the next trick will be getting to the car. I didn't use my normal valet service that I've used for 4+ years because all their lots were full. Getting to the hotel shouldn't prove too painful, but won't be as fast I'm sure. Then the question is how much snow is still piled up on my car. It was clean when I left Monday, and it should be melting away, but it would be a pain to clean it off without a broom and the like.
From there it should be a short ride home where I think we plan to spend the evening snuggling under blankets, drinking hot tea, watching some queue'd up TiVO, and trying to make the cat feel less pissy about being left alone for a week. I am going to be at work a few days next week which has been and will remain a ghost-town through the new year.
Update: Made it home fine. Koshka is doing fine thanks to
loree. Food acquired. Blankets acquired. Sleep soon.
