Water Lilies

cuddlyeconomist and I were sitting at breakfast in Alki Cafe flipping through The Stranger. I spotted a movie review that jumped out at me because she had made some mention of really liking synchronized swimming when it was still an Olympic sport.
Water Liles (a French film) is a coming-of-age story about a young lesbian who has a crush the captain of the synchronized swim team at her local swimming pool. It was quite good, and appropriately angsty (it is French) and titillating, without being truly exploitive. Thankfully
cuddlyeconomist was in town to see it with me because otherwise I'd have felt like a pedophile suspect watching it on my own. As it stood, I felt safe being able to say "Heh, the lady likes synchronized swimming and how many films are there about it?" without having to get into my love of Sapphic cinema generally.
