Post Solstice Update
Jun. 26th, 2008 12:09 amWork is crazy busy at the moment: annual reviews, coming up on the final deadline for the content for Gamefest, lots of other people taking vacations, a short time to deliver on the next DirectX SDK work items, and all the usual randomizations of my job. In good news, I'll be going to SIGGRAPH this year, and I'm just going for the education as opposed to last year when I was organizing a full-day course.
The summer is all-around busy actually, which is good. Had a great two weeks with
cuddlyeconomist during her first trip up for a workshop, and she headed home for a week today. She'll be back on the 4th of July for her summer quarter class. After eight years of "bachelorhood", I was a bit nervous about it. Well, really I'm too stressed with work to be too nervous about it, but it was a concern when she first suggested the idea. So far it's been very domestic, and coming home to company is a nice change of pace. Having enough space for her stuff in the form of a nearly empty closet and dresser certainly has helped. My bathroom has a lot more 'product' in it, and there's a few more objects colored pink about the house, but as I already live a very 'metro' lifestyle it's really not been much of a change. Well, she has cleaned up my front garden quite a bit and done some sewing repairs I've been ignoring for a while, so as I said domestic.
July is as usual heavily booked: Gamefest, Summerstar, and OLOTEAS - Fires of Lughnasadh. Not sure if I'm going to Dragonflight this year with the decline of all the D&D 3.5 RPGA campaigns, the switch to 4E for GenCon Indy, and the fact that my crazy Canadian friends won't be coming down for The Great River gaming.
snarg, I miss you and your delightfully cute choking hazard candy!
My Aussie kinship on Lord of the Rings Online had some kind of tiff, and most of my friends have quit the group for other kinships as a result. Combined with the monstrous success of Age of Conan, the game feels pretty empty and lonely. We'll see how much "stickiness" AOC has when the LOTRO expansion comes out later this year. Guess it's time to start looking for a new Kinship, or at least making connections with some other groups.
In "economic stimulus news", I finally gotten sick of the craptastic Comcast DVR and I'm getting a TiVo HD Series 3.
jeliza says their Tivo HD is really nice with the CableCard, and I'm sick of having a retarded DVR that can't figure out that I only want TDS and Colbert episodes at 11, not the four other times the repeats come on in one day! The old MSFT TV software might have been buggy (and terribly serviced by Comcast's OEM driver guys), but I hate the temporary crap they have instead. Besides, I was only really holding off on a TiVo due to their lack of HD support, which they've kindly fixed!
