Waking up to the sound of a firealarm is an unpleasant start to the day, but it's better than never waking up again. At least I know the money I'm paying for a monitoring service isn't a complete waste.
I have to say that oil furnaces are finicky beasts. The repair guy had to come out last year about three times to keep it running through the winter, and they were already out here doing standard maintenance on it a mere month ago. Not sure what the deal is this time, but he's on his way again. Thank the gods I paid for an annual maintenance contract.
Update: Furnance fixed. Some burner startup problem or another causing a rough start that rattled the pressure relief valve on the chimney pipe. Finicky, but at least mine is only a few years old and is fairly efficient. Natural gas is better for maintaining heat, oil is more efficient for heating up a cold house. Given that I'm really only running it an hour in the morning and 2-3 hours at night, oil is probably better for me anyhow, not that there seems to be natural gas in my immediate neighbhorood anyhow.
In any case, I'm off to work. I'm just grateful it happened while I was at home instead of getting a call from ADP saying "Um, your house seems to be on fire, and the fire department is on thier way to break your front door down."
