Cat Update
Sep. 27th, 2007 10:57 amKoshka is back at the vet today. Blood work didn't show anything to explain the weight loss, and the doctor double-checked his palpation from Tuesday and feels that there is still something there and likely it is something to do with the intestine. Going ahead with the ultrasound and potentially a biopsy. Hopefully they won't have to put her under, because that might upset the balance with her heart, but she can't keep losing weight at this rate.
Update: They had to knock her out to get the scan done. I'm guessing it is more mild than full surgery would be, so hopefully she'll be fine.
Update 2: Ok, she's waking back up. There's no specific mass, but there is something wrong with a section of her intestine. It could be cancer, but it could also be an infection. They put her on some meds which should help if it's an infection (either primary or secondary). Unfortunately as I have a campout planned for the weekend, I'll have to board her at the vet for Friday night, Saturday, and part of Sunday unless I can find someone who is available to pill her Friday night, twice on Saturday, and once on Sunday--I'm glad I'm not on any business trips anytime soon. In any case, the meds, fluids, and vitamin treatment she got while in today should help her feel more comfortable and (hopefully) improve her appetite.
A real diagnosis has to wait for a consult and lab work to come back.
Update 3: Yah for
loree! Koshka will be much happier staying at home instead of at the vet over the weekend, and I'll feel less guilty trying to enjoy the weekend knowing she's not stuck in a cage somewhere.
