Making more progress, but having to go to work is seriously slowing down my progress on the house :>

The electrician came and went, and for about $2500 I have a 200 amp service, more circuits than I could possibly fill, a spa-ready GFCI hook-up (and incidentally the only external power hook-up for the entire house), and some cleaned up wiring in the utility room. Oh and my breaker panel actually reflects some kind of modern building code and my utility hook-up is no longer a frayed mess. The flooring in the study and master bedroom is mostly done (yeah, a real bed!), the living room is still a little over half done, and the guest room/hall are not started just yet. I installed all the moulding I had on hand tonight to discover I'm about 100' short of what I need. So much for my back-of-a-napkin computation based on the room dimensions. At this point I can actually unpack my study. The kitchen is still an issue, but that's a project for another week. At least I can make a meal in it, even if I'm working out of boxes.

[livejournal.com profile] loree helped me spend a bit under five grand on Labor Day. I have a new hot water heater coming Friday morning, a stackable washer/dryer Sunday, a new fridge the week after that. That pretty much wraps up all my major expenses planned for this year (appliances, flooring supplies, electrical work, move, etc). My debt load ran up from 0 pretty fast, but with review bonuses just around the corner I'm less concerned about it than I might otherwise be. The mortgage is hefty, but I made sure I didn't get more house than I felt comfortable paying.

Somewhere along the line I've started reacting badly to something in the house. I've been fighting hives with Benedryl since the weekend. Who knows what it might be given the amount of work I've been doing for the past few weeks, but it is damn annoying.

I've also discovered that apparently the majority of my friends have been part of some 'homeowners club' that I didn't even know existed. Suddenly since I bought the house, they are talking about all kinds of home improvement stuff that they never really talked about before in my presence. I guess it's like having kids and suddenly finding out about this whole aspect of adult conversation that you never were privy to before...
