While generally I think it's a good thing if I'm so busy with other things that I don't have time to post to my blog, I figured it was time for some kind of update. Work's been pretty good, although lots of meetings with marketing people is trying my interpersonal skills. Learning some interesting things about the Xbox 360 launch titles, some of which reinforces my previous opinions and some of which is just good to know.

The majority of my free time has been devoted to playing the new Elder Scrolls: Oblivion game (on Windows, naturally). Given the nearly unplayable bug-fest that was Daggerfall and the "wander the countryside picking flowers for 12 hours at a stretch in the hopes of finding the actual plot" problems of Morrowind, Bethesda seems to have done a pretty good job with this one. My pre-release feedback on the Windows version was apparently not communicated early enough, which I personally find annoying, but for the most part it's great to see a good fantasy CRPG come along that is not yet another MMO.

Friday night I met [livejournal.com profile] jeliza, [livejournal.com profile] rubylou, [livejournal.com profile] drakemonger, and the rest of the family at Ikea for a quick dinner and some shopping before [livejournal.com profile] jeliza and I went on our (not quite) weekly date-night. You know you might be a geek when the first thing you associate "Swedish meatballs" with is G'Kar from Babylon 5. I had not been down there in a few years since my current living space is pretty much at capacity, and it really reminded me of my visit to the Amsterdam airport.

Saturday I ran two games of Living Force for some friends. I was able to wrap up earlier than expected, and managed to make it to the OLOTEAS Beltane ritual Saturday night. So did I spend my time last night enjoying an orgy with a coven of fecund witches? No, at least not this year. In fact, I spent a big chunk of it vacuuming and doing dishes. Pagan groups are full of fun, earthy, playful people but they are often in desperate need of people willing to be the adult and do unfun things like clean up afterwards. It's a good way to get to know people, feel like part of the community, and it fits with my Eagle Scout background.

Of course, this sense of civic duty even in these alternative cultures is how I ended up the token straight on the organizing committee for the UT Lesbian, Bi-sexual, and Gay Student Association one year when I showed up to a meeting with [livejournal.com profile] appleang. Anyhow, the ritual itself was a nice simple affair complete with traditional bonfire jump for luck. Wrapped up the night with a run to Denny's with the rest of the usual post-rit breakfast at 1am crowd.

This morning was a business meeting for the local RPGA gaming club, and a nice lunch with a gamer buddy. The sun has finally returned to Seattle, and it's a beautiful day. I think the remainder of my day will be spent...

playing Oblivion of course!
