Visit from the Folks
Sep. 17th, 2005 09:10 pmMy parents have been in town since Tuesday. So far they've done some touristy stuff, and fair amount of dining out. We managed a dinner with
loree, but I'm not sure the scheduling will work out to see any combination of
jeliza et al while they are in town.
It's been pretty low-key, and with the exception of me not really sleeping well for a few nights, I've enjoyed having them here. Today we got up early and headed up north of Seattle to catch a boat my Dad chartered through PrivateWhaleWatching.com--which frankly I think sounds like the URL of a Internet fetish pron site. It was just the three of us and the boat's owner, and we managed to see quite a few Orca and a Grey whale--along with a huge number of marine birds.
For my Dad's birthday last month, I bought a copy of The Zombie Survival Guide, which I gave to him along with some duty-free whiskey purchases when he arrived. It kind of set a theme for the week, having also watched Shaun of the Dead and Resident Evil.
They are staying through Tuesday afternoon.
Work was quiet but productive this week. I got a few machines in the work lab rebuilt with new motherboards and memory, and we received two more Intel boxes, which are now all set up. So this 2 month long project on rebuilding our porting lab is almost done. The rest of my group appreciates the results, and it was a fun change of pace for a while.
