Computer Project
Jul. 4th, 2005 02:11 amWith the exception of the snafu with the case form-factor, the assembly went pretty well. I spent around $1200 and got an Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2 GHz CPU, a Gigabyte PCIe motherboard fairly fully loaded with features, 2 GB DDR400 RAM, 120 GB Serial ATA Harddisk, NVidia 6600 GT PCIe video card (a solid mid-range card rather than high-end), DVD burner/reader combo drive, 3.5" floppy, and a pretty sweet-looking case. I need to take the original case that turned out to be a micro BTX instead of an ATX form-factor back on Tuesday.
Of course, getting all my applications installed, data moved, and the new system configured is going to take a while. I'm pretty happy with my purchase, although the first few days of burn-in time will be the real test of my research.
