May. 4th, 2005 11:42 pmYou know things are out of hand when you wish you lived in England...
The Daily Show was contrasting the infomercial-style marketing-spin "town hall" meetings that Bush's cronies set up for him vs. Tony Blair having to actually face real criticism and defend his policies based on logic, reason, and honest self-appraisal. He even used the word Bush would never utter in reference to himself: "responsibility" as in "I have to take responsibility for my actions."
I wish I had a moral courageous leader who was able to articulate their position, take criticism, hold firm where it really mattered, and actually empathizes with the opposition. I wouldn't mind disagreeing with him/her because I at least know they aren't just spending their time trying to remember to say enough of their 'code words' instead of listening.
Sadly, both parties appear to be fresh out of such leaders and instead stick us with puppets. And worse they have even crazier handlers off-stage.
