Korea Day 2
Oct. 13th, 2004 05:44 amSlept pretty well, although I woke up a few times during the night and couldn't manage to sleep past 7am local time. The sun-rise was quite beautiful, although there was a Lost In Translation feel to the moment staring out my 29th floor hotel room window. BTW, the hotel doesn't have a 4th or a 13th floor as these are both considered 'unlucky' numbers by Koreans (4 is associated with 'evil'), so technically I guess I'm only on the 27th floor. Most of Seoul is actually fairly short in terms of building height; my hotel is probably the tallest building around.
The hotel we are staying at specializes in dealing with Western business-types, so the breakfast buffet was excellent and unadventurous. Spent the majority of the day going through the talks and slides, and generally getting ready for our presentations tomorrow. Since we are only presenting tomorrow, we'll probably do some light touristy stuff the day after tomorrow when the XBox people are presenting.
More amusing signage random use of English today: "Live Bar" (I guess this is to distinguish it from the dead ones).
There was some kind of police demonstration at the convention center as there was a military helicopter hovering by our hotel as people rappelled down. The fact that there were safety people receiving them on the parking garage roof indicated it wasn't a real situation.
