Meltdown over...
Jul. 28th, 2004 06:06 pmWell, I survived my first Microsoft show as a Developer Relations guy. I was pretty nervous the first day I presented to a room full of people, but I got lots of positive feedback afterwards and felt less nervous repeating it today. I guess the bar of expectations for technical people doing presentations is pretty low, so it wasn't hard to exceed them. Still, it is a key part of my new job so I felt a bit like it was the last 'test' in my hiring process :>
I've discovered that the majority of my team are serious partiers. One other person on the team is a non-drinker, and he is apparently that way due to swearing off the stuff after a particularly harsh drunken event. Fun people, but a little nutty at shows. We had a reception Monday night, and a pretty cool party at the Garage on Tuesday night. The pool and bowling was a big hit, and the place wisely had a dozen servers that night all of whom were (cute) girls--otherwise these developer events have crap for gender balance, and lots of tech geeks left to their own devices makes for lame parties.
Met lots of people, presented twice for an hour each, and helped proctor some hands-on workshops, all on limited sleep...
