Had a lovely dinner with [livejournal.com profile] jeliza and the [livejournal.com profile] divinemisso in Bellevue, which was great because I didn't think [livejournal.com profile] jeliza and I were going to see each other until Sunday. While waiting for them to meet me at the mall, I browsed Borders and found a new Alanis Morisette album, So-Called Chaos, and the new Melissa Ferrick album, The Other Side, which I'm quite pleased about.

I hear most of MF's stuff live and it is just her and a guitar, so it is a little odd hearing these songs as production tracks. During her most recent concert, she made some comment about "Any stalkers in the audience?" while she raised her own hand. Which is honest, 'cause she has some serious stalker tendancies in her songs. Like Melissa Etheridge, it is 'well-meaning' instead of 'creepy', but defintely a theme. This is of course *why* I like their music, but at least I recognize it is not a healthy way to express one's feelings for another. Still, the girl has a way with words...

"you have given me
fuel and I'm gonna burn
this bridge we built
I don't need it anymore
'cause I'm a wicked good swimmer
watch me dive

so drawn to turmoil
so eager to fix
if you're lost and hopeless
I'm gonna fall in love with it

it must come from somewhere
or I'm just out of luck
'cause I attract disaster
like I've got a neon sign
and it's blinking through my forehead
it reads 'take me for a ride'"
