Holy crap! There are nine different pairs of candidates for President/Vice-President of the United States on my Washington State absentee ballot! WTF?

After forcing myself to get up from my nap about 6 hours earlier than I really wanted, I headed over to Alki Cafe in the hopes of getting brunch before they stopped serving it. After successfully getting breakfast, and chatting on the phone with [livejournal.com profile] jeliza and [livejournal.com profile] hdan, I headed over to Bellevue Square Mall to find a copy of Jann Arden at Borders. I heard some of her tracks on one of the in-flight channels, and I think [livejournal.com profile] kerri_tgrl had recommended her to me a while back. No luck in finding a new album, but did pick up one of her older ones. While there I also succumbed to the urge to buy the new Daily Show book "America". Damn it is funny. Biting sarcasm and chock full of stuff that would be funnier if it wasn't so true, but very good.

As I drove into the parking garage, I was witness to about a dozen Bush-drones waving their signs about. Obviously the majority of them were mostly concerned about the tax schedule for the next four years and how safe they will be in their white suburban fantasy than the reality that Bush has never made a decision based on verified facts in four years. Visiting the mall on the weekend in Bellevue brings me into contact with the most annoying kind of well-to-do SUV-driving self-absorbed bastards that I really should try to avoid it more consistently.

My personal opinion is that Americans as a 'mob organ' refuse to change course until things are so bad even the most delusional millionaire retiree in Montana has to admit that things are on the wrong track. Despite hundreds of kids dead in a war with no winning end-point in Iraq based on a bait-and-switch terrorist argument, the total failure that is the 'War on Terrorism' with key Al Qaeda leadership still free to operate, the constant lies about WMD even after every report in the world proves them to be lies, the blatant misrepresentation of the facts by only quoting the parts of Kerry's senate record that sound bad out of context and ignore the consistent abuse of galling legislative riders, the majority-share responsibility the Republicans share for all the missteps during the current term as controllers of ALL branches of the Federal government, and the bizarre religious fever and intellectual failings of the man, Bush Jr. actually has a pretty good chance of winning another four year term. How fucked up is that?

There's plenty of blame to go around here to all corners of the political landscape, but what does someone have to do to actually get fired? Oh, that's right, getting blown by a willing and homely intern and not wanting to admit it to your peers is far more relevant to job performance than the foreign and domestic policies of an administration.

I don't think this is strictly a 'Republican vs. Democrats' issue this time around. I have respect for, even if I don't agree with, people like Senator McCain. The Republican party has sold out to the special interests of right-winger religious zealots and war hawks, and Bush is most definitely making them happy with his choice in cabinet and appointments. If you really can't stomach a Democrat but think Bush should go, vote a straight Republican ticket for everything else and vote for Kerry anyhow. You should also encourage your legislators to actually do their job for a change in running the country rather than abdicating it to the executive branch and leaving the judiciary to clean up the mess.
